Inspection Inspect the drive belt for wear or damage and replace it with a new one as necessary.
Also inspect the belt tension. Adjust the tension if necessary.
Inspection guidelines Press on the specified position on each belt with a pressure of 98 N(10 kg/22.05 Ib) to inspect the amount of belt tension.

  ·A/C compressor drive belt: middle of tension pulley and A/C compressor(1)
· Generator drive belt: middle of generator pulley and fan pulley(2)

NOTE: Since an idler pulley with 80A specifications is made of resin, replace it with a new idler pulley if the amount of wear on the outer circumference of the pulley exceeds
1mm, or it has cracks such as due to stone-chip damage or snow melting agent.

NOTE:
A V-ribbed belt is used for the generator drive belt. It is necessary to adjust to a more accurate tension than conventional V belts.
If the tension is improper, the belt life will be reduced, or the belt can squeak. Always take care to set the exact tension.
A method for checking whether the precise tension has been set is to use a sonic tension meter.
Adjustment Generator driver belt adjustment procedure
1. Loosen the adjust plate lock bolt and the mounting bolt at the bottom side of the generator.
2. Tum the adjust bolt to adjust(remove/attach) the belt.
3. After adjustment, tighten the adjust plate lock bolt and the mounting bolt at the bottom side of the generator at the specified torque.
Tightening torque: Generator mounting bolt
51N-m(5.2kg-m/38 lb-ft)
Adjust plate lock bolt
25N·m(2.5kg-m/18 lb-ft)


NOTE: When installing a new belt, initial elongation of the belt occurs. Adjust the belt by following the adjustment method below to settle the belt in the pulley groove when installing a new belt and when readjusting the belt tension.
· Follow the specified method to adjust the belt tension.
· Start the engine and idle the engine for 5 minutes or more and settle the belt.
· Stop the engine and readjust the belt tension to the standard value.
A/C compressor drive belt adjustment procedure
1. Loosen the /C compressor drive belt tension pulley lock nut and adjust bolt to free the belts.2. Turn the adjust bolt to adjust(remove/attach) the belt.
3. After adjusting, tighten the tension pulley lock nut at the specified torque.
Tightening torque:41 N:m(4.2kg-m/30 lb-ft)
NOTE: When tuming adjust bolt, tool must not interfere with water hose.
After adjusting, water hose must not interfere with drive belt.(Ref: Clearance 5 mm(0.197 in))
