Removal
1. Remove the radiator.
Refer to "Radiator"in Section 1C, Engine Cooling.
2. Remove the fan guide bracket.
Refer to "Water Pump"in Section 1C, Engine Cooling.
3. Remove the fan assembly.
· Remove the four installation nuts to remove the fan assembly.
4. Remove the drive belt.
Refer to "Drive Belt"in Section 1C, Engine Cooling.
5. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
NOTE: Do not reuse the bolt and washer of the crankshaft pulley.
· When the pulley is stuck, remove it using the removal bolt holes on the crankshaft pulley.
Legend
1. Removal bolt NOTE: Use a removal bolt of diameter 5 mm, pitch 0.8 and stem length 20 mm or longer for removal.
CAUTION: Forcibly removing the pulley without using a removal bolt may damage the oil seal, resulting in an oil leak.
6. Remove the gearcase cover.
Refer to "Timing Gear Train"in this Section.
7. Remove the crankshaft front oil seal.
· Remove the crankshaft front oil seal from the gear case cover.
8. Remove the slinger.
· Remove the slinger from the crankshaft gear.
NOTE: The crankshaft gear is not fixed, so be careful not to allow it to come off.
· Using the oil seal installer, install the front oil seal and the slinger.
Special tool: Oil seal installer:5-8840-2936-0
NOTE: Always apply oil to the lip section of the oil seal.
· After installing the oil seal, confirm that the dimension from the end surface of the crankshaft gear to the end surface of the oil seal is within the specified value range(5).

NOTE: The crankshaft gear is not fixed, so be careful not to allow it to come off.
Installation
1. Install the gearcase cover.
Refer to "Timing Gear Train"in this Section.
2. Install the crankshaft front oil seal.
3. Install the crankshaft pulley.a. Install the crankshaft pulley.
b. Apply engine oil to the bolt seat surface and threaded portion.
c. Install the bolt and washer.
d. Tighten to 30 N·m(3.1kg-m/22 lbft) in the order of numbers shown in the illustration.
e. Tighten further for 180° in the order of numbers shown in the illustration.
f. Again, tighten for 60° in the order of numbers shown in the illustration.
Tightening torque: First time 30N-m(3.1kg-m/22 lb-ft) Second time 180°
Third time60°
NOTE: The total rotational angle of second time and third time should be 240to 270°.

4. Install the drive belt.
Refer to "Drive Belt"in Section 1C, Engine Cooling.
5. Install the fan assembly and tighten it at its specified torque.
Tightening torque:8 N-m(0.8kgm/69 lb-in)
6. Install the fan guide bracket.
Refer to "Water Pump"in Section 1C, Engine Cooling.
7. Install the radiator.
Refer to "Radiator"in Section 1C, Engine Cooling.
(a)30Nm(3.1kgm/22 Ib-t)-→180°-→60°
